Big Virginia got married this past weekend on Shelter Island. It was a lovely ceremony, the bride and groom looked like a million bucks etc etc.
The wines were special:
Casa Coste Piane 2008 Prosecco from Mags (tasting great and better than the 750ml format I tried back in February). This time around it seemed more comfortable wearing its prosecco badge. Still, unlike any other prosecco I know (not extensive knowledge, by any means).
Chateau du Coing 2008 Muscadet "Comte de St Hubert" - I can't really remember specific details but it was tasty with Oysters "Casino."
Pepiere 2009 La Pepie Cab Franc from Mags - light and refreshing, but slightly overwhelmed by the presence of the other, more substantial wines.
Agnes & Rene Mosse 2008 Anjou Rouge from Mags - very tasty, maybe even "yumola."
La Stoppa 2004 Colli Piacentini Macchiona from mags - seemed to be the crowd favorite. Who knew that all that is required to get a bunch of people to like weird natural red wines from Emilia is to have a couple of grams of residual sugar in the wine?
There was also Strohmeier Schilchersekt from 750s that pretty much blows me away every time I try it. Fucking awesome and way, way undervalued.
And the pieces de resistance were a couple of double magnums of 2007 Granite de Clisson which was taut and thirst quenchingly good and made my teeth ache in the best way possible.
This wine could probably age forever, but it is so delicious now that I am inclined to recommend copious consumption in the short term. So delicious in fact that we made everyone do Muscadet Jeroboam keg stands until the wine was gone.
Best bar at a wedding ever!
