1998 Caol Ila, Signatory Un-Chillfiltered Collection

I haven't been to Scotland. I've only been drinking single malts for a few years. I haven't signed up for any single-malt secret societies (just yet). I've not read much about single malts to this point. But, fwiw, the 1998 Caol Ila from Signatory is as nice as any single malt I have ever had.

I'll say it again, the Un-Chillfiltered Signatory single malts are stand-outs.

I like to keep a micro-horizontal of that and the 18-year distiller-bottled Caol Ila (or has CI gone ultra-corporate?) for whisky-loving guests. Blind tasting Scotch after X+3 bottles of wine is always a blast, and the next morning regret cleanup is fun too.

In other words: +1.

Another great one is Signatory 1999 Laphroaig. Binny's is (was?) selling it for the completely ridiculous price of $45. Don't have the number handy, but I believe it's ~55% alc.

Yup. A friend ordered a case for distribution among his malt-loving cronies. I bought two.

The Signatory '00 and '01 are available for $50 and 60, respectively. That same friend said the '00 wasn't as good as the '99. Don't know about the '01.

If you come out in November and if your schedule allows it, you're more than welcome to indulge yourself in whatever cask-strength malts that are in my liquor cabinet.

Yep, I also like the 1999 Laphroaig, although I was paying considerably more than $45.
