1988 Raspail-Ay Gigondas

After a shitty week, worth every year of age and every penny spent. Lots of bottle stink when first poured, tinged with brett and not a good match for defrosted chilli, but soothing on its own. Best bottle so far; earlier bottle was fading. VLM would say it's a decade too old; I don't think so, not with a bite on the back of the palate and a fresh finish.

I'm happy to hear this. I would agree with VLM, normally, that it is a decade to old. But Raspail-Ay can be a great Gigondas, and nice accidents happen.

I like the Cayron from the same year as well. Lest anyone rush out to pick some up, it's not indisputably great wine, but it's just the right tonic. Only wine I enjoyed more this week was the V et S Blanc d'Argile.
