Religious or political posts - revisited

Politburo

Administrator
From the FAQ:
"We will not faint dead away at the use of a salty phrase or three, but we also value a well-turned quip and hope your vocabulary contains more than one adjective. That being said, we discourage a locker room atmosphere, so a basic level of civility is suggested. This especially applies to inflammatory political/religious discourse, which really has no place on a wine chat board. If you're just out to be a douchebag, you'll find yourself out on your ear fairly quickly."

Interpretation:

This is a wine chat board and, when on topic, we will extend great patience with posts that might be considered off or even offensive.

When a post is about religion or politics, we will contract that patience to what most people would consider as narrow-minded or even censorship.
And no we will not set-up another board for such ramblings; the internet is full of these kinds of forums - if that is what you want to talk about, go there.

The politburo

And therefore, then, call all, and pursue the right course steadfastly, as you have been commanded; and do not follow in their vain desires.

-Al-Qur'an 42: 15

I vainly desire David from Switzerland's cellar.

Wait a minute, I mentioned another country - does that make this a political post?

Ian, man, you're aiming at the wrong target. Politburo's right.

Une fois n'est pas de coutume, but still.

This is, after all, a wine board. Do Molotov cocktails explode less well at 13% abv?

Geez, Sharon, I was making a joke. J-o-k-e. And a pretty harmless one, I thought. Read my posts on VLM's Holy Shit thread if you are unsure where I stand on the topic of this thread. If some threads here are so much more equal than others that they are exempt from humor, then I must be posting in the wrong forum.

I also vainly wish that my turn of phrase in English were as good as yours (no joke).

Carry on harmoniously.

Does this mean that we are not allowed to assume atheist, leftist politics and buke and scorn those who do not agree? What kind of politburo is this anyway? I'm all for civility but a waste is a terrible thing to mind and moderation in defense of vice is no extremism--or something like that.

Who is this politburo again?

What do you mean "again"? Does anyone know to begin with?

There were rumors that Kane was behind the scenes, but this heavyhandedness does not seem like him.

By the way, is it still Two Amy's tomorrow? No updates on the jeebus board about Dinos or potential Debate Watching Venues?

All rumors. I have guesses based on my ability to spot style and stance, but since those people will deny it, I will keep it to myself.

Heavyhandedness doesn't seem like Kane?

Have you met Kane?

I think that was him.

But he seemed kind of like a Live and Let Live person, even if he was blunt.

Maybe I was wrong.

Also, as Jonathan says, it seems strange that Kane would suddenly purge all typos from his posts when acting as the politburo.

Unless it really is that deep of a cover!

Ian, I was half-joking. Glad you're here. Now for that Cabernet Franc Molotov cocktail...

Sorry if I overreacted. BTW, can you actually make a molotov cocktail at 13%?

Inspired by your recent Jadot thread, we may open a small, harmonious Burgundy this evening.

I've never noticed a lot of typos in Brad's output. I do know, however, that it's physically impossible for him to refrain from blowing his own horn. Were he the Politburo, we'd know.

That's me. Heavy, but not heavy handed.

Typos? You sure you're not thinking of dal Piaz?

Agree.

Best,
Kay

I took a lesson away from therapy, that you could go a long way with means short of moderation. I hope we can continue to exercise those here, to guide the wayward and slap the idiots. Well, certain idiots take more slapping than I have time to give, but I won't mention any names. But in any case, this is everyone's job. Well, we could let the aforementioned dim bulbs out. But step up.
