Super good yummy Jadot and we are all harmonious

2002 Louis Jadot Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Clos de la Croix de Pierre" - I entered my local Monoprix like a zombie. There was a "foire aux vins" on, with unusual fodder. Since Monoprixs swell sometimes in the wake of Lafayette Gourmet, excellently selected by renowned, unpredictable sommelier Bruno Quenioux (brother of Michel Quenioux of Cheverny, uh, "fame"), there are some good finds. This wine, well, I was happy with it. First nose of gorgeous Burgundy fruit. On the palate, sufficiently smooth; silky, even, and elegant; a well-balanced wine, medium-bodied - but with that heartbreaking Burgundianness. I kept my nose in the glass. Need. Burgundy. This was a little good one. Like a locket you keep around your neck with the portrait of someone. Yeah, I love Burgundy.

Sounds good. I had a bad 04 Jadot Beaujolais Villages last night. But I know that has nothing to do with this wine.

How do you like the Jadot Beaujolais? Many disdain it. Last time I tried was before I had my Beaujolais buds reeducated.

We had a Jadot 04 Moulin--Vent Chteau des Jacques or whatever it's called in San Jose last week. It was much less padded-shouldery than I remembered, and I actually quite liked it. It was obvious, but I think young MV can sometimes be obvious even at its best. That's the only Jadot I've had in a few years, having given up due to a surplus of structure plus a definite surplus of alternatives, so maybe I should revisit.

Definitely worth revisiting, but don't do the mass wines like the straight Beaujolais.

I like that wine, but it doesn't taste like typical Beaujolais Gamay. Closer to a meaty Gevrey Chambertin.

Is that what you mean by the shoulder pads?

This insistence on harmony and peaceableness... do I sense that you are unnerved by conflict?

Make me laugh. You are so excruciatingly wrong.

OK, off to finish clicking on all the red cups.

It's okay, really. When people fight I tend to bury my head in my hands and weep in ever-increasing hysterics until they stop. If they don't stop, I bang my head against the floor until it bleeds. No one has ever kept fighting after that.

I hate conflict.

I'm on the Jadot fence, but this one (the 02 PV) was attractively priced. And attractively tasty.

I don't like the word tasty either, but I don't get to make the rules.

I think that there are some very nice wines in the Jadot house, especially those from vineyards they own that are a bit off the beaten path. Some of the big wines, like the Clos de Beze can sometimes seem overworked.

I was also disappointed by a Chateau des Jacques Moulin-a-Vent recently.

As others have said, the mass ones are not interesting but the single vineyard ones are very interesting.

Phew. I will therefore carry on, letting things continue to be tasty.

I just sent an email to the Politburo.
