The first gathering of the Brooklyn Disorderlies. Three of us (Suzanne, Roger, Jeff). In Queens. So it goes.
I expect it will be easier to get onto people's calendars in the Fall.
Anyway, Suzanne and Roger have both been here before -- in fact, Suzanne is a regular! -- so they handle the ordering: green papaya salad, roasted duck salad, fried watercress and mixed seafood salad, cao soy (yellow curry with noodles), a spicy pork dish and a fragrant beef dish. On the way out I picked up two desserts to take home, a very firm pumpkin custard and some strangely tough rice-coconut patties.
With only three of us at dinner we had to limit ourselves to only 5 bottles:
Bornard NV Cremant du Jura, Blanc de blancs - 12.5%, big bubbles, dry as a desert, pretty unripe and lacking in charm, "Boring" -Roger
Weingart 2001 Schloss Furstenberg Riesling Spatlese - 1 656 123 008 02, acid-deficient but a lovely nose hinting of pineapple and peach, a favorite at the table tonight
Donnhoff 2004 Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Spatlese - 7 753 01 008 05, 8%, zippy and limey, just barely sweet, a bit too simple at this stage
S. Ehlen 2007 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spatlese feinherb - 2 590 08 005 08, 11.5%, I picked this up on a guess; decent acidity, noticeable earthiness, no fruit to speak of, interesting but not really charming
Renardet-Fache NV Cerdon Bugey, methode ancestrale - 7.5%, need anything be said?
-----
Stay tuned for news of further Brooklyn Disorderly events, once we get some more reasonable weather into town.
