2009 Lapierre Morgon - anyone?

I also put it in the category of liked but not loved - and not as interesting as the '05 was on release.

The 2005 I got my hands on was really erratic.

I like 09 Lapierre better than 05 at this point. The latter had an off-putting candied quality.

These discussions of 2009 v. 2005 are frustrating for those of us in the west. Kermit hasn't deigned to deliver any 2009 Lapierre to us yet. Word is perhaps in November.

You'll have it when we're out back east, plus you might get some unsulfured.

Had the wine tonight..

It's a wine I've been buying for quite some time and this is definitely a wine that is seemingly balanced, ready, fruit-forward, and wide open today...I sense the ripeness and get a bit of alcohol on back end of the palate (unfortunately) - which might explain the stupid scores...13% on the bottle...It's entirely too gulpable. My biggest worry is whether it will develop complexity and nuance and sense of place...like so many of the prior vintages???...I'm not too sure...it's the essence of Gamay, the essence of fruit, a wine of simplicity today.

I can see this vintage as a crowd pleaser.

I wouldn't object to a bit more time in barrel or perhaps bottle. You could get something more settled and more stable.

Obvious alcohol is not typically a plus for David Schildknecht. Now if it was Jay Stuart Miller who was assigning the scores then I might agree with you.

It's not the alcohol, it' the meat broth quality the wine has. He loves that shit.
