I can't believe I am asking this question

how long can I keep a red in the fridge before permanent damage ensues?

fucking noob...

I've just kept a half-full magnum of a touriga nacional-syrah blend in the fridge for 25 days, and the wine was in very good shape after that.

I should clarify. I am looking at about a week, and the wines would be consumed within 1-2 days to follow. So I am not concerned that much about vibrations, it's the temperature that worries me.

Spanish sweep.

It's amazing your little second world country* can so dominate the world of sport this year.

Gasol: NBA
Nadal: Wimbeldon
La Furia Roja: WC
Contador: TdF

Fucking hell. You are going to be unbearable for a while, I imagine.

*That's a joke Victor. Serious congrats to your countrymen.

Why would the temperature be a problem? I thought colder temperatures would just slow down aging and as long as the wine doesn't freeze, nothing should change?

I always thought the two big problems with refrigerators were vibrations and humidity drying out corks.

But I'm also a relative newbie and the refrigerator has definitely been an attractive place to keep wine in these brutally hot summer days when the wine cooling unit is full.

Wine dependent.
I kept my 2007 syrah in the fridge about one third full for 18 days and it was better than when first opened.
Best, Jim

If closed, no worries.

If open, why didn't you finish it in the first place?

No kidding. Finish it or it goes in the cook queue then the vinegar jar.

I won't take that one - as I mentioned elsewhere. Pau got a little help from that Italian kid with the beefy first name.

We'll just wait for the World Basketball Championship next month. Without Pau. We want to keep it competitive.

What 'little second world country'? This is the forlorn southwestern corner of Europe, no more, no less.

Hardly forlorn these days.

And hardly commie in the old days, IIRC.

Yeah, but no Pau, no crown for Kobe. That's the way it breaks for me.

Take what you can get, nothing lasts forever.

The real worry is low humidity in a regular fridge. Corks dry out like lettuce.

I suggest the vegetable crisper.

Months wouldn't hurt.

I think that national socialism also qualifies as second world, but that may be stretching it.

In any event, it was a joke. I like to tease Victor about being a fascist.
