The first up was my final bottle of the 2006 Donnhoff "Grey Slate" (Kabinett Trocken) which had a deep gold color. Nose of, yes, wait for it . . . grey slate, some confectionary notes and light citrus tones. Palate was crisp and minerally and had a richness you don't often find in Kab trocken but I think the 2006 oomph is in effect here. As it aerated the wine integrated more and lost some fruit and became intensely mineral. It did not lose fruit in a sense of it being over the hill but lost fruit in a sense of the minerals taking charge. I loved it, but drink up.

Up next was one of the most satisfying bottles of wine I have had all year, the 2008 Willi Schaefer Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett. Perfect was all I could muster up for some time with this wine. So nimble, so slatey, so limey, so balanced, so gluggable, so perfect, so detailed, so fine, just so perfect. Profound. Go to Crush and buy all you can get.

So they didn't sell it all with their email?

Sounds like fun, although somehow I couldn't muster up the energy to buy it online.

I have no idea. I live above the store, work from home, so very easy for me to acquire. Worth a shot. I have a GD Kab too I'll open later in the year.
