Pheasant Ridge TX High Plains Prop Res '89

Begun in 1979, Pheasant Ridge today boasts one of the Texas's oldest vinifera vineyards. The winery's first wines were released in the mid-1980s. While Pheasant Ridge offers a number of varietal wines -- Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay among others, the winery specializes in producing blends based on centuries-old French tradition.

Pheasant Ridge Winery Texas High Plains Proprietor's Reserve '89 --

Inky red.
Nice pungency to a complex bouquet, black fruits, weedy dill, lovely veneer, maybe a hint of glycerin.
Full on palate, still some weediness, active tannins well buffered by dark berry fruits, youthful profile, components in balance, impressive density without being ponderous albeit a bit attenuated, touch of chocolate.
Moderately long finish that holds together. [E]

Served with Savory Meat Pie, Butter Bean Salad...

Christian, Per the label it's 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and 14% Cabernet Franc.

I'm pretty sure this vintage was made by Bobby Cox, a very gifted winegrower.

Bobby made a dynamite Pheasant Ridge Pinot Noir '89...a dead ringer for a Vosne Romanee.
