there were two 01 Prum spatlesen opened - the bernkasteler badstube and the graacher himmelreich - both excellent, albeit young (neither sulfurous nor petrolly), with the himmelreich holding a slight edge on precision.
The pinot was, contrary to cole's assertion, the Rhys 2006 Swan Terrace, Alpine Vineyard and it actually was pretty good for domestic pinot - even Robert thought so. It started off showing a bit of oak that integrated with air and food. I purposely opened a domestic pinot, despite the anti-American palates of most of my guests (and myself, I confess) and despite the plethora of red burgundy in my cellar, because I thought Robert might be interested in trying it. And he was and he claimed he thought it quite well made for domestic pinot and not the least bit hot or overripe (my big complaint with domestic pinots).
The 1988 whatever it was was too musty for me and the italian wine was just strange. The 71 huet 1er trie, OTOH, was just fabulous - thanks, Bob. I enjoyed the youngster, too - thanks Cole.
And indeed - the tca curse was noticeably absent - and the wines generally showed well, notwithstanding the "avoid" designation on the biodynamic calendar.
