The NV Jean Velu Blanc de Blancs hailing from Cedric Bouchardville in the Cotes de Bar is a knockout and a great deal. All mineral, all yeasty, all the time on the nose. Good concentration, lovely vinosity on the palate along with a wonderful clean precision. Long finish that is decidedly mineral. Good citrus fruit that is extremely pure and focused along with nice sappy extract on the finish. Lovely.
The 2008 Texier Cotes-du-Rhone Blanc is such a serious wine. It is so intense with such great structure and lively in your face acids. Mostly Grenache Blanc with the rest I don't know. Started out slightly mute on the nose but soon expanded with some swirling and had lovely yellow fruits, paprika and loads of mineral. Like a Mosel CDR. This wine is extremely pure and balanced to the tee. Almost tannic. I really liked this.
The 2005 Cascina degli Ulivi "Nibio" is a darn good bottle of Dolcetto. Brooding, teen-vampire nose of dark fruits and minerals. Loamy. Ripe, dark, rustic, full of fruit and perky acids. What Dolcetto is and should always be.
The 2008 Marcel Richaud Cotes du Rhone "Terre des Galets" is always one of my favorite CDR's. Very pretty, elegant. The sensual side of Grenache. Whispering tannins, lovely red fruits, a dash of minerality and some dirt. Chewy wine. Lovely elegant Cotes du Rhone.
The 2008 Laurent Barth Silvaner is killer wine. I love 2008 in Alsace as there is my kind of acidity. Crisp, mineral, some flesh in there too. Perfectly ripe, good ripe acids. Not much more to say. Great little wine.
The 2009 Franck Peillot Bugey Pinot Noir is not for everyone but it certainly is for me. Sinewy wine. Juicy with a silken texture. Red fruits, dampen earth. Simple yet outrageously enjoyable and contemplative too if that's your thing.
