Back Label Buying

The terroir of the Cote d'Or as the main back label info seems like a good concept to me, even if it is a large negociant. Acquired a while back and opened Monday night to have with griiled lamb loin chops, cous cous and haricots verts. It required two screwpull worms to ensure getting the cork out in one piece. Just barely managed to do it.

This was holding very well, not showing any signs of fading out but I don't think any further improvement was likely. Probably would have continued holding well for years. An example of village level juice doing well even at 40+ years.

1969 Jadot Vosne Romanee AC, not really something that one would expect much from, but this scored well on the "enjoyed having this bottle" scale. A nice mature pinot noir from Burgundy experience for two. Black cherries and plums, eastern spices, damp forest leaves and old wood aromas, lively acidity. It worked really well with the lamb and cous cous.

'69 is usually good.

Um, yeah.

He's pretty much right, IME. I've purchased a number of '69s at auction from sketchy producers with unknown storage, and they've all been pretty good, some really great.

I didn't/don't disagree, just seeking to telegraph awareness of the possible double entendre.

Ahh. My sense of humor gland is malfunctioning today. Went to the funeral of a coworker.

Nice stuff, Ned. (Color on that wine looks great from here.)

I was astonished by it, because of its AC level origin. Also though, I don't suspect adulteration at all, which often gets raised as a possibility when old Burgundy appears to be surprisingly youthful.

I'm sorry about that, my condolences.

Those emoto-thingys occasionally seem potentially helpful for such subtleties.
