Met some nice folk from the Berserkers board at Sun Wah in Chicago a few days ago.
NV Vouette & Sorbee Fidele
Another winner from Vouette & Sorbee. As hipster? Champagnes go they have Bouchard beat all hollow. This exhibits a penetrating minerality softened by the bubbles. While I wouldn't put it up in the same class as the Saignee this is stunning. Argile is next on the docket. Thanks to David R. and (once removed) Robert D. for the introduction.
1995 Pierre Moncuit Cuvee Millesimee Grand Cru
Totally different wine. Rounder with a very attractive orange cream note. Beautiful, though the V&S is certainly more my style.
2002 Dirler Grand Cru Kessler Riesling Cuvee Cecile
Long and creamy, hauntingly beautiful. Unfortunately this drier style was difficult to back to after the sweeter rieslings that followed.
2001 Donnhoff Kupfergrube Riesling Spatlese
Round and beautiful with loads of pit fruit, peaches and nectarines. Great nose. No need to worry about opening this now though IMO also no need to worry about waiting.
1999 Donhoff Oberhauser Leistenberg Kabinett
Another lovely riesling in a perfect place just now.
1995 JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese
The sweetness is a bit clumsy in comparison to the others. Still very good I'd give this more time or server it at the end of meal just now.
2004 Rhys Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir
Magical nose, it displays CA fruit but in perfect balance. Light on its feet. Unfortunately as it warms it starts to display some heat. So try and keep it cool while serving.
2002 Arcadian Francesca Pinot Noir
Lovely iodine note. A bit of earth. Pure and penetrating but far too young. Not really in a great place right now.
2005 Brewer Clifton Mt. Carmel Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir
As one might expect this is not my style of pinot. Hot, overripe. I can't improve on "who knew cranberry juice could be so alcoholic?".
2002 Du Mol Pinot Noir Finn RRV
Nearly as bad.
1997 Chateau Pierre Bise Coteaux du Layon Beaulieu
Rich, dense sweet. Brad would love this and I'm pretty fond of it as well. Will benefit from another 10 years.
