checking in

I read on another board that Parker had 'twittered' favorably about 09 Beaujolais. Querying whether the source was Schildknecht or Parker himself, I was told Parker. This is the extent of what I know.

Jonathan, sorry, I don't grok "grower vines."

Grower wines. Wines vinified by the person who grows the vines. Not my term.

So much for clubhouse rules eh?

If I can add my one and only pedantric note for 2010, it is that Parker waxed lovingly, or whatever the term is, for 03 Duspoofs. As I recall, he was excited about the elevated alcohol levels, but I could be wrong...might have just been a wierd Terry Gilliam thing in my dreams.

Of course. Thanks.

Oh, if he's tweeting about 09 Duboeufs, then more power to him. I should have thought of that.

It's not hard to find Parker's twitter page. Here are the two relevant entries:

2009 is looking like a very strong vintage for Beaujolais...a region in need of a top year -...

...I predict a comeback for these exuberant, fruity, and fun-filled wines

The hyphen followed by the ellipsis makes me all tingly... ... ...

Rovani was the one who raved about 03 Duboeufs. Parker may have chimed in on his board, but I missed that.

Thanks, Jonathan. This was back when I was reading WA as if it all came from the master's mouth.

PS - Can we explode his Tweeter now that he's in need of a region in need of a top year?

Fittingly, it may be a shovel.

Didn't Grahm lose many of his own vines from disease and now does a lot of sourcing? If I have that right, I think it also took some wind out of his sails (sales). I agree with Thor that they seem more interested in seeming interesting.

yes, so given putnam's comments i'm wondering if either their new plantings have finally gotten enough age to produce good wine or if they are just sourcing better fruit somewhere?

If the former I'd be curious to try again, Santa Cruz terroir and all that...

MI VINOPutnam - Can you tell me what Michigan wines I should be drinking right now? I've been scoping out the selections at Village Corner but have yet to pull the trigger...

John, VC recently put up a 'specials' page of wines Dick tasted in the state judging, fwiw, with lots of notes:

Surprised to see Black Star doing so well - they weren't nearly my favorites last time I was in the area. Interesting to see them making Pinot Gris and sparkling.

i'm not sure. i wouldn't presume to. except that i recently drank a bottle of 2008 "requisite" from circa winery (blaufraenkish) and thought it might be the best bottle of michigan red wine i ever drank. the price is not particularly friendly at about $35 though. but it seems small to complain. the wine is dense and white pepper scented. no oak taste. monolithic? perhaps that's a blaufraenkisch trait. ian fitzsimmons was over this summer and we drank a bottle of the 07, which is pretty nice too, and you should be able to find that for about 25 standard units of us currency.

Good luck... I emailed the winery the day after we drank the 07 Circa and never received the courtesy of a reply.

Are those fighting or loving pickles??

And Bonnie Dune? Didn't they kinda bomb out like the movie version?
I really haven't paid attention to them since they moved into the valley from up on top the mountains. They had a cool tasting room in the actual old hamlet of Bonnie Doon.
