Flat out delicious, packed full of red fruits seasoned with fresh black pepper notes. With some air the fruit becomes more streamlined, and herbal/tobacco elements and a vivid minerality emerge. Leftovers two nights later taste even better, equal parts fruit, pepper and stone though bearing more resemblance to Cabernet Franc than Gamay. Not that I'm complaining, as this is stunning and I wish I had bought more.
 
Good to hear as I've been a little concerned about it so far. In my first two bottles the trademark minerality seemed largely concealed behind some dense fruit which is not something I expect with CRB.

I think I'll still wait another 6 months or so before venturing on the rest of the case though. Especially given how well the 2008 is showing right now.
 
Jay, I think your concerns are valid, and you should sell the remainder of your bottles. Is this a good time of year to ship from your locker to mine?

Ah the luxury of holding some, no doubt SFJoe would approve. My 2nd bottle wasn't as good as the first, could've been the food pairing.

I'd be happy to ship a glass or two whenever you like. But the '08 is really quite a bit more joyous at the moment.
 
Jay, don't even get me started on the importance of the so-called "off vintages" these days. Even on WD, I may not survive the ensuing battle, not to speak of other places.

Was 2008 an off vintage for CRB? I didn't notice.

I caved into your relentless spamming on the 08 Clos Roche Blanche Gamay tonight. It's tremendous. But what will I do with the real cork now?

We left less than a quarter bottle of the 08 overnight in the 'fridge - even better today, all muscle and spice. The 07 didn't come near to it, IMHO.

I liked the '07 but I agree that the '08 surpassed it. And at the moment the '09 but I have hopes for the future.
 
The '08 is a monument to off-vintageness. And fuck y'all for buying all off the '09 when I was somehow offlline or otherwise occupied.
