Ian Fitzsimmons
Lovisolo Vino Supmante Brut Rose (NV): made, I'm told, from Nebbiolo juice in Prosecco style (but not sweet): Dry and savory, with a bit of roundness suggesting a small amount of RS. Day 1 a tough edge that is off-putting after two glasses. Second day it relaxed into a delicious and characterful tinted fizz, very slightly yeasty. About $18, I'd buy again.

Von Simmern 2002 Erbacher Marcobrunn Kabinett

Drinking very nicely now, the sweetness, too big and SL-like a year or two ago, has settled down into a kind of patina on the mineral backbone, just enough to make the drink smooth and a touch fruity. Integrated and really good, tasty with salted almonds, crackers and hummus, and leftover fried chicken.

2001 Grand Puy Lacoste

Lovely, understated, fine, sandy tannins, classic cedar, pencil lead, dark fruit and underbrush, integrated and quietly modulating. I'd forgotten why I used to buy Bordeaux. Drink with 2-3 hours (or more) decant. Soul-soothing.

One of the few who still remembers how to make 'em. Had one of my 99's quite recently. Quite like yours.
