Ownership [Domaine] should presumably mean more in ultimate quality terms than Negociant [Maison] with bought in grapes since there can be no hiding place for the former from a terroir and control viewpoint.

Of course a top quality Negociant would also have a highly effective quality control process in place - as e.g. William Fevre [Domaine & Maison] has in Chablis.

However I wonder how much difference there really is in quality control terms [although I have a distinct taste preference] between Jadot's [owned] MaV Chateau des Jacques single 'Clos' vineyards, like Rochegres, Grand Carquelin et al and Latour's [not owned presumably based on Claude's post] single vineyard Les Michelons'?

I sometimes think that highly effective quality control leads more often to wines that I would be willing to drink than to wines that I want to drink.
