2004 LdH Via Cubillo Crianza

Glad to have accomplished something, David! Musar is similar, I think...their entry level red is decent, but it doesn't exactly serve as an intro to what they do best.

i disagree. while i think that neither the baby musar or cubillo are what their respective producers do best, i think they both serve as perfect intros to what can follow.

Never tasted the Cubillo and you're worried about taint. Which wines have tainted your palate?

Scott: gateway releases, as it were?

I have several baby musars gestating....they are decent wines, and sure, fine for intros to the un-initiated, but I still think of them as different species, for (what seem to me to be) obvious reasons. That said, I asked about the cubillo because I'm curious....otherwise I wouldn't have asked in the first place. I'll have to try one. Everyone else: arms at rest, please.

So you won't taste the Cubillo even at the point of a bayonet?

So your saying your gonna take a 91 bosconia and age it for 30 years??? I mean they are one of the few estates in the world that hold and release with such care. I mean i have tasted way back several times and i find that each time i check in on one, lets say the 81 bosconia, it is pretty much the "same".

I'm not young enough to do so but it will certainly benefit from it.

There was a quip? (There are times when I'm glad to not own a tv, this may be one of them.) I'm all for the Boy Scouts of America to be mostly made up of boys and the Girl Scouts of America to be mostly made up of girls, if that helps.

Cubillo is a wine for laughter! While profound has its place, giggling probably won't kill you either.

Best,
John

tough to determine if cubillo had caused the giggles, what if it's a leftover effect from bosconia GR from the week before ?

Very Theise-esque.

Not my intention, but thanks (maybe).
And for Heaven and Haro's sake, when you consider how much is coiled within their rosado, there is something charming about Cubillo's gregarious simplicity.

Now I can also see how the afterglow of last week's Bosconia GR could remind you of the laugh of your first true love...

Best,
John

More specifically to the vintages cited here, I'm surprised, because tasting '04 Cubillo and '00 Bosconia Reserva a few months ago, I found both lacked stuffing. '99 Gravonia and '98 Tondonia Rosado (not to mention, separately, at another moment, '00 Rosado) were far more compelling, that day.

I've got issues with 00 rosado, WG. It shouldn't be trying to get to the place where the 88 is now, so early on.

Really? I startle to read it. I haven't had the '88, though; is it so very fruity and open-agreeable?

My favorite (of small number I've had) has been '93, closely followed by that '00.

I'm also surprised to hear it. While I also only started drinking LdH Rosado with the 1993 the 2000 is, to date, my second favorite after the 1995. But am I reading correctly that your skepticism is related to ageability given how wonderfully delicious, complex and food friendly it is at the moment?

my favourites are 88, 93 and 97. I can live with the 95.

the 00 seems to have been made in the style of their blanco, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

I like the rosado fresh on release, with the anticipation that it will do the nutty oxidative meursault thing after quite some time.

FWIW, the LdH website says its wines uniformly - including the Cubillo - may be kept for 10 years or more, with proper storage. Sole exception is the Bosconia GR, which, the site says, you can forget about in the cellar.

The site looks good and informative, by the way; there's growing and technical information for each bottling, and descriptive 'fiches' for bottlings in specific vintages. The Cubillo write-up probably explains whether it is conceived of as a 'lite' version, but my Spanish is feeble.
