At tonight's surprise birthday for Mr. Coad, yes, he was completely surprised, Lisa presented him with a brand new 27" iMac. There was much speculation that this wonderful gift would be just the incentive Herr Cod needs to start posting again with greater frequency. Indeed, the birthday boy indicated that this just may do the trick. Keep your fingers crossed!

Btw, we drank some tasty wines. In the yum category:

2005 Huet- Vouvray Petillant, '90 Knoll- Riesling Smaragd, Ried Schutt, '07 Lapierre- Morgon Cuvee VII, '78 Sycamore Creek- Cab Sauv, '93 Drouhin- Beaune Clos des Mouches, '89 Huet- Le Mont 1ere Trie & '95 Dom. des Petits Quarts- Coteaux du Layon. 1er Tri.

I didn't love the '96 Breton- Bourgueil "Grandmont," though it was beautiful on the nose. Still a little too hard and green on the palate for me. Also, there was a Jurancon Sec that didn't do it for me, though it wasn't Cauhape.
 
The 2005 Petillant is still showing well, definitely preferable to drink this over the 1st release (and maybe even the 2nd) of the 2002 at the moment. The Drouhin was young and tight, tight, tight. Only started opening up after about 3 hours in the carafe. Loved the Sycamore Creek, lovely mature old style CA cab. That Jurancon Sec was nice on its own and a perfect match with the shrimp. Lapierre was delicious. The Le Mont is still young but starting to develop some nice nuances, delightful to drink. The Petits Quarts seemed a bit simple in comparison. I remember liking the Breton and Knoll but since they showed up when I was winding down over the Le Mont my recollection is already faded.

Chris certainly seemed surprised and stunned though one cannot help but remember his previous profession...
 
We tried that 1996 Breton Grand Mont last year. Disorderly Scott Frank was there. Good stuff to nose and mouth here. Wish I had more. How's the Druet Grand Mont doing? I haven't touched the two I still have in quite some time. Anyone?
 
It's ready. At least, mine was, but it's possible the Callahan/Kane combo cooked it with their constant bickering.

My last one was faded and done. Vaumoreau still has life to it.

I'm convinced it was a set up. All I did was turn it towards me to pour and suddenly the tip fell off. I'm sure Steven Hawking could explain it. Maybe even Connell.
