2009 Vissoux Fleurie Ponci
Ripe round and fleshy. Very Voluptuous. There is a lot of wine in this bottle! Of course it still tastes like Beaujolais (at least to me) and is not at all a ringer for southern wines. But Im guessing I will like this more in the future when the depth and stoniness take over from the voluptuousness. Because there is a promising finely-knit and suave aspect to the wine. Nice.

2009 Vissoux Brouilly Pierreux
Ripe and broad but not as plush as the Ponci. Not as much flavor either, but a lot more energy. Two ways to enjoy wine. This was fun and Ill be happy to taste these wines again in the future.

2009 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie and 2009 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie Cuve Tardive
Both are great. Enjoy them. I look forward to seeing them evolve. Different bottles of each have tasted richer/firmer/plusher/more pulsating, etc, etc. Its all a moving target. So keep drinking.

2009 Domaine de la Ppire Muscadet
I opened this for my in-laws and at first was a bit annoyed that I couldnt find the Briords. But any sense of regret was quickly washed away by this kickass delicious wine. So freaking good and perfect with the sea bass.

2009 Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette VV
Big and big with some fragrant herbal elements dancing around on top. On the first day it has a rubbery gummy rich middle that is a bit too much for me, but on the second day that thins out and I like the round bubble of cool dark Morgon fruit. Not sure what that says about future evolution, but with all the great wine out there this one bottle didnt make me inspired to buy more. Will see if thats my loss.

2009 Daniel Bouland Morgon Delys
From the first sip this shows much better detail and complexity than the Corcelette. It is of course very primary, but still fine and elegant. Very nice. With a few hours of air some fierce (for Morgon) tannins come in and start to shut down the show. But it was nice while it lasted.

Thanks. Sounds as though having the baby around is already loosening you up some. We'll have our first 09 Pepiere later this week; maybe I'll buy a piece of sea bass.

Have you tried the 09 Vissoux Cuvee Traditionnelle yet?
After a recent mini vertical of these I'd like to try the 09 version.

I don't know how to describe it, but the Traditionnelle seems a little more restrained, maybe a bit less showy fruit then the Vissoux cru wines.

I've never tasted the Brouilly version, only the two Fleurie cuvees and the MaV.

I would think that it's hard to go wrong with any fish and Pepiere, assuming appropriate saucing, preparation, etc.

I haven't had Traditionnelle in 2009 but that certainly sounds like my experiences from other vintages.

Possibly my taste in such things is wanting, but I've found Pepiere's regular bottling in other years, while excellent, to be a bit modestly-built for biggish fish like salmon and sea bass. Also, sea bass happens to be on sale nearby.

i had it this past week and it is excellent but i think in need of a little time to come togethor.

also drank two other 09's that were new to me but left me with similiar impression. the Chateau des Jacques Morgon and Domaine du Pavillon de Chavannes Cote de Brouilly, both plump and full of fruit but in need of some bottle age.

The Jadot is Moulin A Vent, no?

That has been my take on the of couple of 09 Beaujolais I've tried so far, they will be more enjoyable with a little more time. Haven't tried Coudert yet, sounds like the horse wine is an exception.

there are 5 chateau des jacques mav's: rochegres, carquelin, clos roche, clos thorins, and champ de cour.

in 2001 they purchased land in morgon in cote du py and roche noir. i believe these are blended into one wine simply labeled morgon. this was the first time i have seen this wine. price point is below $20.

Have you had the Garants as well? Usually I prefer the Ponci since I find it brighter and more lively. This year, maybe because of the vintage, I found them both darker and liked the Garants better, though they were both fine with me.

I had no idea about the Morgon, or even that there were so many Jacques MAV cuvees.
Thanks.

Jadot used to label its Morgon 'Chateau des Lumieres,' but as of - I think - two years ago moved it under the Chateau des Jacqes designation formerly reserved for its hand of Moulin a Vent bottlings. I've seen some favorable notes on the 09 Jacques Morgon. The MaV is universally well-regarded, I think, though I don't know its rating on the spoof-o-meter. It gets oak, which is not to everyone's taste, and the single-vineyard bottles are priced like Cote de Nuits villages wines.

We opened an 05 Vissoux Traditionelle last week that, I thought, with air time, was just starting to come out of its shell: the sort of crunchy fruit-granitey hardness breaking up and rich red fruit oozing through to the buds.

the 09's chateau jacques seem to have lower prices than previous vintages. case prices in nyc get it down to about $30/bottle. in maryland it can be had for upper $20's. previous vintages were all mid $30's.

i always assumed most cru beajolais spent time in oak barrels. no?

Nice to hear prices are down: Winesearcher corroborates the rates you note. Don't know about the oak, though I bet practices vary considerably.

John Gilman wrote an informative thumbnail piece on the Jadot Beaujolais on one of the other public boards.

6 if you include the basic.

I remember reading somewhere the new oak percentage is around 50% depending on the year. In the '05s it only took a year or two to become essentially invisible.

What's the saying? Drink early and often? Tis election season!
