Francois Chidaine MSL Almendra Brut 1996

Bill Lundstrom

Bill Lundstrom
I bought a couple of these from chambers street but have never had this wine before.
Anyone have any experience with it? Does he still make it?

I read some details about the wine on a website, it's kept 10 years on the lees apparantly, but am looking for tasting information, food pairings, drink/hold, etc...

SFJoe comments on it favorably ('... grand stuff ...') in his most recent set of Loire notes - seek and ye shall find. Per him, disgorged 2007, so 10 years on lees. Priced like Champagne.

at first seems full bodied, but then recoils. rich, at times round, but not. great acid. really pleasurable. makes you want to know how to do this... it's all a mystery to me...

thanks. any advice on what foods it works with?

went really well with a cauliflower and snail soup with lots o cream. makes me think you want some fattiness involved with what you're eating...

you know what also went well with this soup? 89 clos st hune. god wine...

It sits 10 years on lees, so wouldn't expect to see the 01 for another year or two. '96 is all I see in the marketplace. Good question about criteria.
