Oregon Orogeny

Cristom needs to be mentioned in this conversation. Clearly in the top 5 producers in the state. All roads usually lead to Eyrie. Up and Coming: Crowley. Will refrain from rating Cameron but highly recommend trying the Clos Electrique Blanc.

You folks who like Patricia Green - any recommendations among the '08 lineup? I think I can get the regular 'reserve' bottling, the Croft, and the old vines Ribbon Ridge where I am. Maybe the regular Ribbon Ridge and Ana too.

John Paul, UC Berkeley Ph.D. in Marine Biology, has the look of a guy who wandered up to Dundee Hills from Haight-Ashbury in the late 1960s. We were discussing his compost heap located near the winery where he admitted that after considerable experimentation, he was willing to concede that biodynamic preparations work. However, with his science background, he is unwilling to accept it on faith so now his goal is to understand why they work.

Just quaffed half a bottle of 08 Patricia Green Reserve with my wife. Frankly, I don't get it; this wine is not remotely appealing. Too young? I'll try a long decant for the second half.

Yesterday I was handed a glass of Beaux Freres 1999 Pinot Noir, a wine I would normally not touch with a 10' pole. The acidity was not too shabby, maybe just enough to hold the remaining fruit and sugar together. It had the cola-inflected aroma that NW pinot often shows but it did not taste much like pinot; there was a lemony, sant'gria sort of flavor medley that I could not identify as any grape.
