Fried chicken. Beef short ribs. Sure, there are other things on the menu but hell.

And another thing: Was Friday some kind of a root day? All the wines showed just excessively splendidly:

Donnhoff 2002 Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Spatlese - 77530100803, ever so slightly mellower than it has been before; very long; gorgeous; I can't even call out the whole fruit basket; my tongue tingles delightfully; I can't believe the conversation at the table about how this wine could improve!

Jobard 2001 Meursault 1er Blagny - no pox; I drink chard so infrequently that this feels really oily to me; grapey-apricotty flavor; stiff structure, needs food; others like it better than I do

Breton 1985 Bourgeuil "Les Perrieres" - at first, slightly musty, pretty cab fruit with a hint of eucalyptus or mint, mid-weight, mild tobacco, mild bell pepper, a bit disjointed; with about 2 hours, the wine pulls itself together: red currants come forward and the nose becomes fragrant and forward

Burguet 1998 Gevrey-Chambertin VV - rustic and earthy, lots of pinot fruit, a whiff of shoe polish or even a kiss of brett

Muller-Catoir 2008 Haardter Herzog Rieslaner Spatlese - 51740792009, it says 'spatlese' but it's certainly auslese sweetness and maybe more; a bit low acid but pretty white peach

Geantet-Pansiot 1996 Charmes-Chambertin GC - wow, so powerful, so young, so very Gevrey: masculine, glistening fruits buried in earth and brandy; two days later, the rest of the bottle is still drinking well (if a tad less edgy)

Jamet 1998 Cote-Rotie - wow, bacon and plum and fig, still good grip, did I say wow yet?; with more air the floral element just keeps expanding

I thought I'd see a picture of some Chinese chicken wine.
Wasn't 2008 supposed to be a return to real pradikat levels for German wines?

Is the next restaurant meal going to be at Five Guys, Burgers and Wines?

Good fried chicken is actually a fine match for many wines.

No one got the short ribs, I tried ordering the Lamb Pot Pie (which is actually a very nice lamb shank with some (puff pastry or phyllo?) on top but they were all out.

Not least Champagne. Preferably BdB from a good RM, but hell- I was given a bottle of My Husband Died And All I Got Was This Lousy Marketing Phenomenon that went just fine with a bucket of Popeye's.

No. Wouldn't mind a round of Szechuan Dumpling Wines though some time soon...

The wines were all lovely. I was astonished by the Burguet (which I preferred to the Charmes), and thought the Jamet was amazing - pretty much everything I could want in Cote-Rotie.

Leftovers of the 85 Bourgueil held up surprisingly well overnight!
