So I am asking myself why am I finding Bordeaux is no longer matching my expectations-frequently I feel I would enjoy and old Baudry or Breton more.
Last night it was 1982 Cheval Blanc. Wonderful nose but it had dried out a bit. It did improve with some air and was very nice-but for the price....
A 2003 Troplong Mondot hand carried by friends from the cave seemed more like a Ca wine-probably due to the vintage heat-but the style seemed Ca too.
A 1996 Grand Puy Lacoste was more traditional Bordeaux but seemed stuck in time-maybe still closed down.
A 1989 Cantemerle-a favorite producer-was very green initially-it seemed more like a Loire Cab Franc from a wet vintage or a producer that over cropped.
In fairness there was a disappointing Breton also-a 1997 Senechal-which sorta fit the Cheval Blanc profile above-great nose but somewhat thin and lacking in depth.
