Rocky direct riesling with hints of floral citrus oils but bracingly austere and best for drinking without thinking.

A little more to be interested in here, tingling tangy salty lemons with earthy backward grip. Loosens up a bit with air and has a refreshing profile that makes me think its German Muscadet.

Heres where things get more complex, richer and more oily although of course still basically a mouthful of mineral rocks. With air it shows some warm chewy slightly nutty notes but it always retains the stern mineral lemon backbone profile. By the end of the night I am impressed with the depth and would love to see how this develops over time.

The best of the bunch, as it should be. Still plenty of salty lemon mountain rocks but much more intensity and tension inside the body of the wine. Whipping through the mouth with a suaveness that is very pleasant. On the second day some more flavor details begin to peak out and I would also like to see this developing over time.

I tasted eight '09-wines from Andreas Laible in Stuttgart a month ago. Of these there were three rieslings; kabinett trocken, sptlese SL and the GG. The riesling GG was the best wine from Laible with it's intensity and finer structure in the mouth. I found the SL almost as interesting aromatically. Also he had a very nice gewrztraminer sptlese trocken. Totally I was perhaps slightly underwhelmed by the vintage. 09 got quite a lot of ripe aromatics in Baden - even Durbach.

Just a week after this someone opened the Durbacher Plauelrain klingelberger auslese trocken 1998 from Andreas Laible for me. It showed fine mineral depth and a great nose, but again the riesling-aromatics got quite ripe with lots of honey-notes. In the mouth it was ripe, hot and a bit dull.

Glad to hear you liked the GG as well.

None of these were overripe on the aromatics in my opinion (I was expecting more) although they were 13% and had plenty of power. I would be interested in seeing the GG again and maybe the Achat. But they didn't bowl me over and make me fiend for them in my cellar.

I've been drinking a bottle of the 09 SL riesling over the past few days and it has been delicious. I thought it might be shut down but it seems to be mellowing (if still in that rigid direct mold) yet still very zesty and lively. I have a bottle of the 09 GG lined up for this weekend. Hoping for good times.
