NWR: Zombies take on DC

What sorts of terroir differences are important to observe for a budding marijuana enthusiast? Is there a Loire Valley of pot? What is the state of dope connoissuership?
Bill Easton once expounded to me the entertaining theory that all those arguments in the 70s over Thai vs. Panama Red vs. Jamaican laid the groundwork for today's wine geeks.

I vote for Panama Red.

You should hear the kids argue pot today! You need a fucking iPad app to keep up with them!

But it's spoofulated all to hell and gone, what with all those "designer clones" that have crept in from those clever growers in Amsterdam. Gone is the sense of terroir we got from Panama Red, Maui Wowie, Kona Gold and the ever popular opiated Thai stick. How long do we have to wait for the Natural Weed movement to take hold? Of course, the experts at High Times will no doubt decry the whole movement as "the greatest sham foisted on the pot-smoking public," but they're so beholden to the commercial growers as to no longer be credible.

Terrior? Sounds like varieties.

Alas, Prof. Carole Meredith never turned her gaze (to my knowledge) toward CA's largest cash crop, so we still await the scientific analysis. My own feeling is that in that era we were dealing with at most 1-2 varieties, but that's merely anecdotal evidence.
