T. Matthews: blog post on Marcel

The amber dawn-drenched East with sun-shafts kissed,
Stained sanguine apricot and amethyst,
O'er the washed emerald of the mango groves
Hangs in a mist of opalescent mauves,
While painted parrot-flights impinge the haze
With scarlet, chalcedon and chrysoprase.

You forgot to mention the maker and vintage.

Joe D. is a hero to me, but he's got the wrong end of the stick in this case. Either that, or he's just messing with Arno.

I can never tell what's going on in this insane asylum.

Need I say more?

Apologies to Arno Tronche.

I can admit when I was wrong.

Will Alice Feiring apologize for her purple prose and hyperbolic writing?

Will Thomas Matthews apologize for a hatchet job against Marcel Lapierre?

Will Little Nell ever find true happiness?

Thank you, Jeff. If nothing else, this thread has taught me a new word and new mineral.

Sounds a lot like wish fulfillment to me.

As a fan of the prose of Walter Pater, Oscar Wilde, John Ruskin and Friedrich Nietzsche, I protest against this mindless belittling of purple prose and hyperbole. Natural wine is all well and good, but burning with a hard gem like flame is still the aim of life.

I smell your drift.

And, come to think of it, Fla. Jim was vibrating a little the last time I saw him.

It's funny to me because i sometimes think that those mainstream winewriters secretly sneak off after hours and drink real wines like Lapierre's when in fact my suspecions that they actually dont know about their existance has been confirmed to some degree by Matthews. Just shows that they really do live in a whole other wine world.

So when did faerie juice get a bad rap?
Honestly, I'm disappointed. I would have thought if anyone could look under a leaf in some forgotten corner of France, find the faerie winemakers and then import their best stuff, it would have been Joe.
