Eric was kind enough to sell me a few bottles of the '08 Pergault VV this summer while I was in the area. It was great; clearly with a long life ahead of it, but really glorious this summer.

My latest bottle suggests your hunch is right:

2006 ric Texier Ctes du Rhne-Brzme Pergault VV - France, Rhne, Northern Rhne, Ctes du Rhne-Brzme (5/9/2010)
Aromatics are beautiful: black olives with minerals. Texture is lovely. But the palate is closed tonight. Air does not help.

The 2004, on the other hand, is in a great place.

butterflied leg of lamb + charcoal + 06 pergault on my birthday in august was a fantastic combination
the wine would probably come across as too young with a more delicate dish

the 07 is outstanding as well
