'05 Egly-Ouriet Ambonnay Rouge drinking well now.

so are many 05 sancerre rouge, I expect - the ones I like, and the ones I don't

Like Robert Denis, whose wines I've never tasted and which no longer exist, though the vineyards do, with wines made by someone else

Sharon

Some of Robert Denis wine's exist in my cellar-have a 89 standing up to maybe try before I leave for Sydney.

Anyone open the '85, '93, '96, '97, '99 lately?

I'm think the '97 should be drinking well and was thinking of opening it...

I certainly wouldn't have expected 0-5, thanks for the heads up.

on the other hand, if I had no other options, I would certainly drink perrieres earlier than senechal

Odd, since Snchal vines are between 15 and 30 years old while Perrires vines are closer to 70.

who knows.

Perrieres is from the Galichets part of the hill, flatter and with much richer soil, no ? Senechal is way up there. Vinification must be different as well, I bet. Where is comrade Connell.

Still fresh in my notebook (the mind having long gone): Perrires is mid-slope clay-silica with lower yields and 24 month levage while Snchal is mid-slope clay-limestone with higher yields and shorter levage. I got the impression that the differences between them are more due more to vine age, yields and levage than soil. Breton suggests waiting 5/10 years for the Snchal, longer for the Perrires. Both 08s were tasting great last Monday, despite the Perrires having just been bottled. Great stuff.

'96 Perrieres tonight is a little clipped. I suspect the brett has eaten the fruit, though the brett is not so terribly heavy.

Nice enough, but not great wine.

The '05 Clos Senechal (I couldn't locate the Perrieres) was shut down, closed, and dreadfully tannic, for the first hour.

Then much better. It was actually quite good with dinner. Try again in a year or two?

Interesting. Levi liked it a while back too. I had it I think in February and thought it needed another 15 years to show it's best. Very, very interesting pinot though.
