What did I ever do to Portugal?

I really liked the Brouilly though. The brett wasn't an issue (though I'm pretty tolerant), and I thought it was drinking very nicely after some air, with really bright red fruits and a very silken, finessed texture.

(Anyone who has unwanted extras can always dump them in my direction...)

I missed the Brouilly, unfotunately. Why should a 5 year old Brouilly crack up, from such a good vintage? I understand it's not Cote de Brouilly, but still.

I liked this quite a bit about a month ago, though the brett was an issue for BJ at the time. I certainly didn't find it on the down slope though. A bit dark and spooky in its own right perhaps...I would have thought it've been great for halloween.

That's only because the Spanish corks seem like they could have come from anywhere. (ducking for cover - where are those damned smilies?)
That's called being cosmopolitan. Very Spanish trait. Take me - the way I sound, I could have come from Yorkville or Yountville, depending on the day... Then, of course, it's usually reflected in the purple goo we make.

(Speaking of which... This spam just in: http://internationalwinechallenge.com/Library-collection2.aspx )
Or Yonkers, where true love conquers in the wild.

What's a bilberry?

I thought G. Descombes' 05 VVs were remarkably promising on arrival, if painfully backward.
A year or so later, the Morgon was still a bit wound up, but strikingly detailed with almost exotic aromas and great palate intensity. Certainly not classic or typical but really exciting wine.
Even late last year I still found these wines full of promise. But sometime in early '10 mine started to turn. Light oxidative and vinegar aromas, thinned out palate, tired flavors, more noticeable brett (although it was always present in the Brouilly, imo).

Maybe a little more SO2 might have helped. Or maybe my bottles just didn't comfortably enjoy their UPS ground travel out west from Chambers St. back in the winter of '07-'08.

Probably the latter, if no one else has had issues.

Whoops. Whiles.

Never made much sense to me anyway.

As far as I know, you were right the first time:I'll Take Manhattan
Can't believe everything you read on the webz, I like yours better.

my Ella recordings also confirm, to my ear, that "wilds" rhymes with "Childs".

and what about the '95 Ca d'Morissio? Corked as well, no?
Yes, but I brought that one. Jay is only discussing the corked wines that he brought/bought.

tragedy none the less. but thanks for the effort.

A discouraging word.

After the rather-bretty performance on Sunday I opened my last bottle of Descombes 2005 Brouilly tonight. This bottle was much cleaner. The fruit had darkened a bit but also the tannins had become gentler. The whole effect was very pleasant, yet I think I might limit my Brouilly holdings to 3-4 years.

I bought two mags of the 05 Morgon VV on impulse - what do I do with them? Was planning to test Beaujolais longevity, but now I'm unsure.
