NWR: Anyone going to the International Fine Print Fair in NYC?

Spam warning: For any of the NYC art lovers here who may be planning to go....some of my artwork will be on display with the Verne Collection there.

(Hope I don't get sent to the Gulag for this. Fwiw -as far as I know- my artwork has no connection whatsoever with the CIA.)

You're supposed to be connected with KGB. Get you alphabet agencies straight.

Yes, we're going on Saturday. Is the Verne Collection with one particular dealer or just displayed at one of the ends of the room?

Jeff, the Verne Collection is a dealer with their own booth and there may be a pdf on the IFPF website showing their actual location in the Armory space. Ask Michael Verne to show you my "Leaf paintings", a new series he got the first of when he was here in Sept. (they can't be displayed on the walls, since, well, they aren't prints).

No, you see, the CIA used American abstract expressionists' artwork as a cultural weapon during the Cold War. If my work was connected with the KGB, I should think the Politburo would have put me up to making the post in the first place....

...wait a minute...

Too bad the gallery I work for is not participating in the Print Fair this year, otherwise I'd have had a chance to swing by and see your work. These must be your handiwork:

Yup, that's mostly earlier work of mine. Azuma gallery in Seattle has some more contemporary images.

Tom (and anyone else interested): here's a link to the article on the CIA using Art as a weapon....interesting stuff...

Wow, Joel. Thanks for that link. I have to say that it comports in some fashion with the general view of the CIA in its early years (and perhaps still to this day for all that I know) as a refuge for Ivy League dilettantes. It's almost enough to make me wish for another Cold War.

Joel,

Thanks, seems like the election has inspired more than a bit of political nostalgia. That version of the CIA beats the misinformation of the Bush II era.

Joel,

We met with Michael and watched his "show". He had two of your Leafs: ginko and cherry. Liked the cherry but loved the ginko. Even my putti-and-A415-viols husband liked the ginko Leaf.

Thanks for the heads-up. Really, Verne's collection was the highlight of the show for me.

Thanks, Jeff, I appreciate your making the effort and glad it worked out. There can be a bit of Willy, if not Loman, to his show to be sure.

That's interesting about the ginko...those aren't even colors I really like myself, but something's at work there. The ginkos here are now turning a sustained yellow, so it's time to go out leaf hunting again...
