Bruce K's note on another thread reminded me that Joe imports Syvie Esmonin's wines, which is a strong endorsement. I don't find much around about her brother Frederic, though. What's the scoop on him and his wines?

Or cousins. Read it somewhere. Andre was the prior generation estate holder and split the domain twixt 'em. Clos St. Jacques, etc., to Sylvie; GCs plus Estournelle, Lavaux, etc. to Frederic.

Negative. Sylvie is the daughter of Michel.

At least she was when I visited them in 99.
 
The first sentence of one of Lyle's old notes reviewing the 2005 F. Esmonin G-C 'Clos Prieur' kind of shaped my impressions of the domaine, rightly or wrongly:

"You know it's a good vintage when a Frederick Esmonin wine is blowing you away."
 
No recent experience. My older experiences have been perfectly acceptable but never gave me any reason to seek them out.
 
Ian, have I ever suggested to you that you buy any wines from F. Esmonin? No? Then you have your answer.
 
Yeah, but perversely, Meadows and Tanzer like his 08's. Naturally, your views trump theirs, but I still wonder. Maybe he's getting better.
