I was never convinced by the 96 Chidaine Almendra...

Wow. That is very sad. I've had maybe 15 delicious bottles of that wine.

Yes, I had seen some of your positive comments on here which were all the extra prodding I needed to purchase. But I don't think I was alone in my lukewarm reaction. Bad luck/bottle for us I guess.

I have to agree. I couldn't spot a recognizable flaw like corkedness, but something didn't seem right.

Yes, the Chidaine just seemed ... dull really. Perked up a bit with my appetizer.

I think my wotn was the white Chateauneuf, but I'm a sucker for what Eric does with that bottling. The Muller Catoir and the Clos Rougeard where also right up there though. The Sebastiani was quite nice, especially with the food - which didn't seem up to their usual standards. One of those nights I guess.

What was the entire list of wines, again? For posterity's sake:

2006 Charvin CdP
1997 Masi Osar
2004 Texier CdP blanc
1995 Musar blanc
1996 Chidaine Almendra
1998 Muller-Catoir Haardter Burgergarten Riesling Sptlese
1974 Sebastiani Cab Proprietor's Reserve
2004 Clos Rougeard Saumur Champigny
2005 Thomas-Labaille Sancerre Cuvee Buster Les Monts Damns
1997 Niepoort
and the 1999 Cosse-Maisonneuve Cahors Les Laquets I brought that was horribly heat damaged and from which you all were spared

I think that's right, except for one: and what was the Bellivire? 1996 Pineau d'Aunis ros, but which cuvee again? Les Girofles?

You left out the Navarro Cluster Select Late Harvest Gewurtztraminer (2006 or 2007, don't recall).

well, no wonder - just saw the list of wines and there were no red burgundies!

the bottles of this i bought on the west coast were as you describe. the ones joe has fed me in new york have been golden. even the great bottles needed to unwind though, which means there are better candidates for sharing in large groups.

Point well taken. Although it had about 6 hours to unwind by the time I finished it at home and had not improved. Either way, SFJoe seems to have the numbers (of bottles) on his side thus far.

The Catoir didn't get any better over the next couple of days. I think it was a root day or something.

Friday and Saturday were fruit days, Sunday was a root day, and Monday/Tuesday are non-tasting days.
