Brun Nouveau

I was served a very good N last night. Allegedly. I tried to run, but I did not know which way the subway was. Then they promised me some Cru shit, so I stayed. SFJoe may know the producer involved.

Yes.
Which is kind of amazing. No-SO2 nouveau. Not bretty at all.

I do not think I am brave enough to keep a wine with no SO2 and such brief elevage for as long as the stalwarts at CSW advocate, but there you are.

seems like a very good nouveau, just not for me, I guess most of them aren't.
Although now I recall trying Brun's 09 a year ago in Charnay, and liking it.

Brun's nouveau is the exception for me. I really look forward to it.

A wine to buy and drink before March Madness ends the following spring.

you are making me think ( which usually hurts my head, you know )
i used to stock up on low end chinon for the winter, just in time for march madness, except the current vintages are producing low end chinons that will be ready for the next world cup instead.
i think you are on to something here.

I am counting on my stash of '09 Baudry "Les Granges," which I have drawn on for tonight, to last me until the final game at Wembley the last week of May.

Ah, you beat me to it. I was just googling the next open bid date when you posted.

The '09 Les Granges is great tonight, but I won't argue that it might also be drinking well by the the next CL final at Wembley.

how long do they advocate?

Yesterday i did my yearly experiment of grabing a bottle each of our nouveaus and heading down into the underbelly of the shop (where i keep many experiments) from where i unearthed some "vieille-nouveau" (read: last year's nouveau) and replaced them with fresh bottles.

Here are the results:

2010 Cotes de la Moliere, sans soufre, etc. (11,5%) Beautifully fresh and vibrant. Lumnious clarity and purity. Easy, fun drinking.

2009 Cotes de la Moliere, san soufre, etc. (12,5%) Hmmm. Something "natural" is happening here, maybe a tertiary fermentation here and there. Bit of reduction but that blows off giving way to a vibrant level of spritz. I found this wine interesting, kinda enjoyable in its own right. My colleagues found it pretty fucked to the point they didnt bother with a second pour-i kept going.

2009 Chateau de Chatelard, Villages-Nouveau. (13%) This was beautiful. This wine always takes a couple months to really show its best and in this case a full year did the wine wonders. This drank like a bloody Julienas with a tight berrylishous flerty thing as well. Great experiment. (not imported this year).

Overall my impressions are that maybe this is an indication of what the very forward 09's will do over time. In some of the most "natural" of cases the wines might be at their best in the next couple years while the ones with a little more structure will be peaking many years from now. Who knows, and i dont really care but it is always a fun experiment. Next year we will see how Mr. Brown's nouveau weathers the seasons.

I've never tried the Brun Nouveau, but I was given another bottle of Nouveau this year that I liked (unlike all others I have ever been subjected to). I got a bottle of P-U-R (Production Unique Rebelle) Beaujolais Nouveau Sans sucre ajout 2010. 11% abv. Light, refreshing, wonderfully pure Gamay aromas; pleasantly tannic and acidic, so it isn't just vibrant fruit though it has that, too.

So what is this producer? I hadn't heard of it before, yet when I was given the bottle, I was told this is some sort of cult producer among natural wine producers. Any info on them?
