Am I just unfair?

Folks, we don't have to pick.

These are not '05 GC Burgs or something. You want a little '07 in the cellar, a little '09, it doesn't hurt so terribly. Have both!

I like '07s myself, agree totally with ._ about the Foillard, though that wine is not so inexpensive at retail.

Some of my fave '09s are not at all for right now. Coudert Tardive, for instance, I don't plan to sample again for, say, 8 years, and I sure hope I didn't fuck up, because I bought a lot of it. I'll see how my 2002s and 2005s and 2007s are going, and that will guide my opening of the '09. But I will be humble and shocked if I regret that purchase. My only recent regret in the Coudert department is that I ran out of '99s too early.

But the '07s from the late release guys are great, and I will keep buying.

Maybe I'll have a few stupidly fruity '09s, who knows? But in the greater scheme of wine purchases, these will hurt less than most.

But the flip side is that a properly balanced 09, of which I believe I have tasted a few, can be "supercharged" with fruit to get me further down the road I want to travel than IMVHO the 07s.

I think this is a totally fair assesment.

No wonder, then, that I'm loving the '09's, eh, Levi? Par for the course, I'd say.

so which ones have you liked the most, so far?

Lapierre- Morgon, Roillete- Fleurie Tardive and Brun- Fleurie are my top three so far. The Thevenet just came in and the Foillard and Breton are due in shortly, so I'll be trying those soon.

Tried any Vissoux yet Brad? Their Fleurie Poncie's among my favourites in '09 (loving Lapierre and Roilette as well).

Meanwhile, 08 Burgaud Morgon CdP was freaking delicious last night after an hour or so of air.

I tasted the Burgaud 08 a year or so ago and liked it a lot, though I'm not usually a fan.

I've been waiting to hear Jim's take on the 09's, especially on the Vissoux.

You didn't buy any for yourself?

Not yet; there's none available locally to try bottle by bottle. I'm also trying not to get too swept up in the 09 excitement, though hoping to purchase some trois roches soonish on general principle. Plus, I enjoy reading Jim's notes for their own sake.

Certainly not without Jim's say-so.

One of the things I've learned to admire about you here, Joe, is the way you successfully master your Asperger's so much of the time.

Not even at the Weygandt store? I guess I just assumed they would have the full selection.

They do, but D.C. isn't really local to me. I get there, say, once a quarter, and am usually too busy to shop much. Charlottesville is where I get to lay hands on actual bottles, and the shops I know there are still clearing out back vintages of Beaujolais.

Thanks.

So right, Joe's a great chef.

The 09 Vissoux Cuvee Traditionelle is really good. It is very much an 09 with forward fruit and dark color, but not as much in your face ripeness as the 09 Thevenet.

Superb balance, but the tannins are buried a bit by the youthful fruit.
Dangerously easy to drink, our bottle disappeared in no time.

I haven't tasted the 09 Crus from Vissoux, but this bottle is a bit more restrained then the other 09s I've tried.

Awesome. I used to eat at a place that had "pan fried dumpings" on the menu.

I misinterpreted your comment and apologize. I was unfair.
