There was a great weekly feature in the old Far Eastern Economic Review, before it went bust, that showed ambient creative and mutated English in that part of the world, starting with 'vermincelli' on menus and progressing from there.

'04 CT is spectacular. However, I am now out. I think the '09 is wonderful.

My general fear with the '09s is not the fruitiness, which I think will moderate and de-Kaneify with a little more time, but that they will shut down for many years.
 
I agree, and I fully expect them to.
Even the 09 CT - but I think its close-down period will be relatively brief. Should still be open for business on thanksgiving (my choice of red), but may hybernate all winter.

Ah, i saw a photo of that sign. I also liked a sign that said "God Hates Figs" (with an appropriate Bible verse that really gave reason to question figs) and "Will Spell-Check Tea Party Signs for $$$."

My favorite Beaujolais for current consumption are the 2007 Morgon's from Descombes. The VV is especially excellent. They are the current releases.

Thevenet can be great, but I have the same issues as bwood. I've experienced the same issues with Breton. Foillard seems to come in the cleanest to my market.

My experience with Chamonard has been terrible, thus far. Eric insists, so I'll keep an open mind.

I tasted the 2009 Morgon, Fleurie, and Brouilly from Vissoux and was bored.
 
something is confusing here, sfjoe and I had a doa 07 descombes morgon on thursday, and by the sound of things so did fatboy.
But a bottle was good in July, although completely ready to go. Different bottlings ?

Didn't know Vissoux produced a Morgon. Which Fleurie bored you? I hope it was the P, otherwise more confusion. I disagree about Brouilly, but that's OK, the wine serves a specific purpose.

Edited for clarity. Vissoux were 2009s. I also generally find Vissoux boring, except for the Tradition.

The 2007 VV (fat bottle, wax capsule) has been consistently excellent.

The 2007 regular has been more variable.

Bottle variation could be at work with Descombes.

The 2007 Brouilly VV was the wine on the best form last Spring at the LDM tasting.

Thank goodness. I thought I was the only one. Though I haven't tasted widely so I may have just had bad luck hitting them when they're closed. That's what I'd been assuming given the general love they see from people who generally line up with my palate.

Last time I tried the '07 Descombes Morgon VV it was aromatically closed.
But not dead, just sleeping, was my overall impression. Late Spring I think.

i've found that the vissoux crus often show a bit square and unflattering in their youth, at least in comparison to other producers. given how well the tradition shows young, i have even wondered if this wan't part of a larger plan.

time is the key -- a stray bottle of 06 poncie i found in the fatcave last week was beginning to show more silk and plushness, but should still have been allowed to rest a few more years. i need to learn to read labels more carefully.
