Too much Beaujolais?

$12/750 ml pricing for water is still a little ahead of its time.

$9 after a hefty case discount, but the point is still valid.

*Sigh* Do I have to start using emoticons?

From the FAQ:

"Where are the cute little cartoon smiley faces and winky-winky embedded icon things?

Where? On EVERY OTHER SITE ON THE INTERNET. We hate that cutesy animated cartoon shit. What are you, seven? If so, beat it. Come back when you're legal, you want to get us in trouble?"

Bring on the '10s!

Another pleasure-hating sad sack here.

I can't drink the '09s now and am unconvinced that I will be able to in the future. Yes I've had a couple of successes, but usually there is an opaque thickness and aromatic quality I can't get past. Although I do have some Tardive stashed away out of blind faith.

I'm okay with this, but the problem is that I've basically depleted my '06 and '07. I didn't buy much '08. So bring on the n00b vintage.

I hate to dismiss a vintage with broad generalizations, my elevage was better than that, but if I had broad objections it would be to 2008. One frequently encounters green tannins that don't really delight.

I will be quite surprised if the 2009s turn out to match the negativity from certain austere quarters. I feel like Lenin discovering leftists! Who knew there were extremists on my other flank? Anyhow, many of them need a lot of time, IMO, and I'll give it to them. I mention in passing that many of the vignerons also feel that 2009 was an unusual, remarkable vintage with a lot of potential. I don't think of the Beaujolais gang as being much given to Bordelais-style marketing hype.

But I'm pretty excited for the 2010s.

I had a great 09 Beaujolais today. Like a cross between aforementioned Coudert-Appert Chiroubles and a Foillard.

I hope I haven't said too much.

Sitting here staring at a glass of 09 Drouhin right now. Seems to have calmed down but is still riper than anticipated. Semi-carbonic maceration according to the tech sheet, does anyone know how many negotiantes or vignerons do this versus those who don't? Side by side with the 09 Jadot will be interesting next week.

Oh yea first post. Hi.

Oh yea first post. Hi.

Fuckoff newbie.

I enjoyed a bottle of 2009 Domaine des Billards Saint-Amour tonight - veers towards being almost overwhelmingly intense, but remains very precise and focused and delicious nonetheless. A slight chill gave the wine a nice chalky and more classical affect.

I hear you, Slaton, but surely you have some '05s that might be rounding into form now? Waiting for the '10s doesn't sound like a bad option, though.

I think it is instructive that slaton, the other Northern Italy knowledgeable amongst us, also doesn't dig '09 Gamay.

Look, it is '09 and it is Gamay: the contours are too soft and the fruit is too frOOty for people who are used to those drying Nebbiolo tannins.

But the real takeaway from this for me is that you can absolutely tell when a vintage is vastly overhyped by the simple means of raising objections to it shortly after release. If people will just absolutely not hear you, then don't pass GO, don't collect the hundreds, it is, no doubt, overhyped.

And Larry, I'm not disparaging 09s because I think 10s will be better (who knows?), I am disparaging 09s because I don't like F&F: FrOOt & Fumes of alcohol.
And that is it. No big conspiracy. I don't like the wines.
