Learn(ed) Me Something: 2009 Causse Marines Marcillac

Funny, I was just talking to Eden Mylunsch, who attended the event in LA yesterday, and she mentioned this as one of the tables to be on the look out for on Saturday. One of the highlights of the show, apparently.

Unfortunately, my tasting sheet is also at home but (more unfortunately), I work from home so I have no excuse for particulars other than the fact that tragically, I can't quite find my notes right now because they're probably stuck underneath a pile of stuff. However, (and as Mr. Kane mentioned above) I was quite taken with the entire lineup of wine Virginie was pouring yesterday (as was Gaillac Groupie Lou A):

Despite (or perhaps because) she works with some unusual (for Malibu at least) grape varieties the wines really stood out from the rest of the wines being shown yesterday. The Preambulles (an aptly-named preamble to vinous cogitation?) was my favorite, offering multitudinous savory herbal sensations unlike any I've ever experienced this side of really old Chartreuse. I could go for this in a big way, and Lou will probably be able to finance a couple of more rounds of sauerkraut if he keeps these wines on his list for people such as me who are willing to buy it BTG as we try to figure out what/why/how it's such compelling stuff.
