Eight wines from Weingut Gerhard Aldinger tasted in Stuttgart in the middle of September-2010. The reds seems to be a little bit too extracted for my taste. They are moderne made wines with their dose of new oak. But the concentrated fruit seems to be able to handle that. The question is how interesting wines this style make. As young wines they seem a bit too simple for what they should be. What will happen with age? My favorite was surprisingly the Merlot. The whites shows more delicacy, although a high ripeness that might be due to the vintage.
Silvaner*** 2009
From Hanweiler Maien. 12,5% alc, 6,2 g/l acidity, 14,3 g/L residual sugar. Spontaneous fermentation. Stainless steel. Quite intense and aromatic silvaner on the nose. Sweetish fruit witrh lightly vegetal hints. Fullbodied and quite concentrated silvaner in the mouth. Slight fat and shows light residual sugar up-front. Clean vegetal and aromatic fruit. Medium acids and length. Good silvaner in a slightly sweetish and simple style.
Untertrkheimer Gips weissburgunder*** 2009
Limey and mineral nose with some riper fruit-notes. Lightly leafy and typical weissburgunder-notes. Some oak-notes. Rich and powerful wine in the mouth. Pretty fruit, lightly on the ripe side and some oak in the background. Medium acidity and the alcohol is noticeable on the finish. Very good. Fine fruit, but a bit soft acids and hot finish shows the ripeness.
Fellbacher Lmmler Riesling grosses gewchs 2009
Yellow fruits. Some pineapple. Also grassy notes. Minerality. Dry and very pure style in the mouth. Fine minerality. But the fruit is a bit ripe. Yellow fruits, bordering on some tropical notes. Fine acids. Good length. Good wine.
Untertrkheimer Gips sptburgunder*** rose trocken 2009
Light pink colour. Light red berries, nettle and some earthy hints and oak on the nose. Dry and acidic rose in the mouth. Refreshing style. Light mouthfeel with citrusy and nettles in the fruit. Some oak and earthiness in the fruit. Refreshing and quite high acids. Dry finish. Fair quality.
Lemberger** trocken 2009
Deep red colour. Pretty nose. Quite fruity lemberger with hints of dark berries, some anise. Light oak. Fullbodied lemberger in the mouth. Concentrated and fruity style. Intense. Red and dark berries. Some anise. Light oak. Medium acids. Dry finish. Very good, but seems primary and simple right now. What will happen with age?
Untertrkheimer Gips sptburgunder grosses gewchs 2008
Red berries. Quite complex nose. Autumn leafs, compost, red berries, oak. Modern made sptburgunder in the mouth with fine balance. Quite seemless wine with a light sweetness in the fruit. Oak quite apparent right now. Red berries, autumn leaf-notes. Decent acidity and some tannins on the back. Structured style. Will probably benefit from some aging. Very good, if a little anonymous style.
Cuvee M merlot*** trocken 2008
From Untertrkheimer Gips. 92% merlot, 8% petit verdot. Deep red colour. Tobacco, skin, oak on the nose. Grape-typical. Hints of dark berries. Young and typically soft style in the mouth. Pretty fruit. Modern made with noticeable oak and sweetness in the fruit. Anise notes, skin, tobacco. Dark berries. Appealing fruit. Fine acidity. Behaved tannins in the back. This is a surprisingly good german merlot. Needs some time. Very good.
Cuvee C cabernet*** trocken 2008
From cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and cabernet cubin. Dark red colour. Dark berries on the nose. Hints of blackcurrant and oak. Fullbodied and more structured wine in the mouth with more tannins. Sweetish oak and a little vegetal style. Red berries, some blackcurrant. But fruit is not as nice as the merlot. Good acidity. Tighter finish showing more tannins. Good, but this was a little disappointment after the merlot.
