Birdwatcher? It is true that last week, on a canoe trip in Florida, I did see quite the avian profusion: vultures, egrets, herons, one opsrey and a lone pelican. I'm not the sort, though, to plant myself in a tree to observe birds through binoculars. Truth be told, I was more transfixed by the turtles lounging on logs and the gator that we startled off the creek bank (it was mututal, I assure you).
(Just before I arrived for grad school at Columbia, the husband of one of the staff members was shot to death in Morningside Park while birdwatching -- that's put me off the activity for life)
