Drinking in Paris and Nice

Fleurie sure is full of unique taste descriptors these daysOn another site Keith Levenberg wrote, of the 2009 Metras Fleurie Ultime:

"The most prominent components are a savory hanging-game scent that calls to mind some wines in the Chambertin vicinity and a strong wheat- or grain-like flavor that, curiously, I've now noticed in three Fleuries and have never noticed in any wine other than a Fleurie, but I'm also unaware of anyone else making a note of it in a Fleurie or anything else."

2009 Metras Fleurie Ultime could I think accurately be described as an extreme example of 2009 ripeness. I would hesitate to group it with other Fleurie of my experience.

I am curious to try it. But at the price it was easy not to load up.

The regular Fleurie that's in my glass right now might be described as a very pleasant and balanced example of 2009 ripeness.

It's not the zippiest wine in the finish, but it's still quite tasty. I probably prefer Coudert, but I could drink a lot of this if you put a gun to my head.

I liked that particular wine at the first and second sip, but I lost interest later as the evening wore on.

I can see that view. A bit deficient in the structure department.

But with defrosted turkey mole negro it's not the worst thing ever.

I do not have the awful feeling that I should have bought a bunch more. My couple of bottles will do me, and I have hidden the Ultime away in the cellar on your orders.

Turkey mole negro seems like it would be the perfect dish for the wine. You really should come and do the sommelier thing a couple times a week.
