TN: 2009 Clos Roche Blanche Cot

Jay Miller

I'll give it 8-10 years before opening my next one. Somewhat harsh at the moment (as this wine is wont to be when young) but should amply reward patience. All the elements are there

Yup, the cork's real. I also found the tannins quite aggressive on the Cot when I had a bottle recently. Leaving my other bottles alone for as long as I can manage.

Just 8-10 years? :) ....I'm thinking the '09 Gamay needs that much time.

It's worth checking in on a second bottle at that time. The '98 Cot was at least as aggressive on release and it was beautiful at age 8.

Was there a 2008 CRB Cot released?
I must have missed it if there was.

I'm pretty sure Chambers never carried it. I never saw it in the US (and I try to monitor CRB sightings pretty closely). The 2007 was on sale parallel to the other 2008 reds.

Of course maybe it's another 2001 Gamay thing and the west coast got it all.

When I first moved out here(WA state) about 7 years ago I could buy CRB (at least the Cabernet, Cot, and the Sauvignon blanc from my locally grocery store/Co-op.

Sadly that is no longer the case.

We opened a bottle of the 09 CRB Cot last week: what a beautiful color, like ruby satin, all shimmery and supple to the eye. Flavors and texture were satisfying, though puppyishly uncoordinated. No trace of the mustiness in Argentinian Malbec. Shut down overnight, but, taken cool, about 10 minutes out of the 'fridge, leftovers were very tasty and pleasantly restrained compared to its initial showing. I'm becoming converted to the faith.

BTW, does the Cabernet drink on the same time scale as the Cot (8-10 years hence)? Some notes suggest earlier drinking.

FWIW, PSA, Union Square is selling both 09 Cot and Cabernet at about $16.10 (sale price through Sunday, mixed case purchase). No interest, etc. CSW's allocation was vacuumed up in the twinkling of an eye, iirc.
