Oswaldo Costa
Oswaldo Costa
No notes taken, just what I remember from a handful of hearty reds selected by the staff for winter warming.
2006 Pedralonga Rias Baixas Tinto Do Umia $17
Yummy. Very reminiscent of Loire cab franc. Despite the impression that this is from somewhere else, quite delish. Mencia, Caino and Espadero.
2008 Chateau de Mayragues Gaillac Classique $12
Nice enough but didn't like this as much, perhaps because the tannins are still behaving like freshly minted sandpaper. Duras and Syrah.
2009 Perrini Negroamaro Salento $14
Really lovely aromas and very satisfying in the mouth. A winna from the heel.
2009 Domaine de la Guicharde Cote du Rhone $11
Did not do it for me. Grenach/Syrah blend. Seemed a bit insipidous. Time should help.
2009 Bernabeleva Vinos de Madrid Camino de Navaherreros $14
Another delish, Garnacha up the wazoo, wearing its 15% alcohol with Muhammad Ali grace and agility. Juan to buy.
2006 Walter Clappis McLaren Vale Shiraz $23
Fuggedaboutit. Jammy fruit, new world full bore. What's this doing at my alma mater winestore? Just 'cos its biodynamic doesn't mean they don't catch the clappis in the winery. Oh, excuse me, they have some other customers to please.
2008 Quivira Dry Creek Valley Zinfndel $20
Despite the full thrust zin pepperiness and general sensation of elbows on the tabletop, eating with your hands, and wiping with your sleeve, this delivers zinniness with aplomb. Marcia liked a lot, bless her yankee soul, though I found myself slightly affronted by the antics of the country relatives.
