Wine bars or similar in proximity to Inner Richmond?

I am far from hip enough to know every worthy hangout in the city. Does anyone have any recommendations for wine bars or bistros w/ good by the glass lists and bar / lounge seating or the like that are closer to that part of town?

Anyone been to or have thoughts on EOS or Fat Angel which are the most promising I've found in any kind of reasonable proximity...
 
No.

There is at least one wine bar but the list is wince-inducing. I think a disorderly wine bar in this neighborhood would struggle mightily.

I lean toward BYO at Gaspare's or jet out a few blocks to Pizzetta, when in the area and mood. Neither of these come close to what you are looking for, though.

If you venture to nearby Laurel Heights, the lower Haight, Pac Heights, or (insert snarky comment) the Marina there are more options, but still not many to write home about.
 
It's no big deal to go downtown with the 1, 38, 2, etc. buslines and there's plenty of reward there. I haven't been to EOS in many years, largely because the parking is so beschissen out there -- enough to discourage anyone who doesn't live within walking distance. If you want some place within that distance, I'd think about NOPA or OTD, both of which will give you plenty of interesting wines.

Add on edit: it's not my specialty, but really good Spanish wines (and food!) at Contigo out on Castro & 24th.
 
Thank you very much for the feedback and suggestions. NOPA is a good call, hadn't thought of it and haven't been in a while.

Also haven't been to Contigo yet though I continually hear good things...
 
Josh -- Rereading the original post, I see that you're willing to look into bistros with good by the glass offerings -- check out Baker & Banker, too, at Octavia and Bush. The wines open each day go considerably beyond what is shown on the website. Also good food. And in another direction, La Ciccia at 30th and Church, if your interests go to Italian. Again, good (excellent) food.

Does "Inner Richmond" refer to a district in the city in VA? I'll consult my gf from VA tonight, but I think not. And we're not talking city of Richmond in CA, either.

That sounds like a grand idea! We're thinking of going there with friends on February 11, but would be glad to go before or after that. Let me know what's good for you.
 
I'm not aware of anything that fits the bill in the Inner Richmond. I would head to SOMA and Bar Agricole if you want a good list with OK food and a scene, or Terroir if you want a really good wine bar with interesting old world wines by the glass.

It's funny, though, because I'd never heard of such a place and simply assumed the original poster meant "downtown Richmond," i.e. in Virginia. Which is a cool place, actually. At least I thought it was tiny and offbeat and cool when I visited it some ten years ago.

La Ciccia was awesome the one time I went, I should go back!

How is the food at Baker & Banker?

As it turns out, I imagine we'll end up @ NOPA as it's a reasonable distance and it's sort of a default choice :)
 
Food at Baker & Banker has never been less than good and often excellent when I've been there. It's usually better than you'd expect by reading the menu description. But La Ciccia is a different thing, altogether, especially if you love squid, calmari, and lamb (uh, not necessarily all in the same dish).
