Together again....

are now at an end..."

Yep, it's schmaltz. That is, if you haven't heard Emmy Lou sing it.

Buck. Whew.

It's all in the delivery.

I had a love affair with Alsace, and esp. ZH wines, but that affair lasted...well, it didn't last.

I ain't no Thor either, but these 2 wines I offer up as turning point wines of late. If these indicate a new trend, I will gladly sing more country.

2002 Julien Meyer, Cremant D'Alsace, 12.5%, (Imported to Japan by Cosmo Jun) - Auxerrois sparkling. Slightly bronzed white gold....bakery toast nose....tart, citric, lengthy, some bass notes, clean, deep and long. $28 and my excuse to not find grower cham.......finally.

2009 Julien Meyer, "Nature", Sylvaner/pinot blanc blend @ 12%. Extremely complete. Full. Medium. Dry. Lingers on the tongue and then snaps. Jostles Bossard. Or at least is faintly reminiscent of, in a nice way.

Meyer Cremant in the US (on Winesearcher) is NV @ $43; nature non-existent. Somethings to hope for.

Sittin' on a bench at West Town Mall
He sat down in his overalls and asked me
''You waitin' on a woman?''
I nodded yeah and said, ''How 'bout you?''

Ian is that an NV? The '02 seems to be the latest release here. So rare to find a bubbly that scratches the champer itch this well.

I should note also that Meyer is an ambient yeast kind of guy. Nature is saline and slightly turbid, but beautifully balanced. Sylvaner is starting to become a pet fave around here. Very much it's own grape.

Joel, You really struck a chord with me here. Are you sure you don't have any roots in West Texas (Midland??)?

Great posting!

. . . . . . Pete

Yes, the listing just says 'NV,' some place in NY I've never heard of.

I think Claude is a Sylvaner liker, too, but more German Sylvaner.

Ian..."West Town Mall"? An IF original?

I've had a total of one Franken Sylvaner, and another from (yet another) Alsatian producer (Reitsch, which I posted on last year) but these few samples are making me a rapid fan.

I haven't seen the NV version (Nevada, right?) but at the sub $30 price for the vintage stuff, I won't cry if I don't find the NV release.

Pete - Texas I've only visited once (Hill Country), but I do admire the great music that's come out of the state!
