A couple of old working man's Bordeaux do well

We were on Lopez last weekend and had a couple of nice old Bordeaux that made me pause and think, oh yeah, Bordeaux...

Friday night, with New York steaks, and some insanely good mashed potatoes courtesy of Brian C and his farm (both potatoes and these crazy French heirloom shallots he grows). 1985 Cruzeau - yeah, the yeoman's Graves. Delish, yes. Classic textbook Graves, with all the fixin's: cedar, leather, minty thrust, and in no way too old. Classic pre Parker Bordeaux. Would give almost any old Loire a run for its money, shy of something like a Foucault or old Jouguet.

Saturday night, kebabs with Lopez lamb and some of Brian's onions. Yum! 1989 Beaumont. Not as complex as the Cruzeau, but still, black curranty goodness, settled, soothing.
