2009 Thevenet Regnie Grain & Granit

I have been on the fence as to whether or not I like the ripeness in the 2009's but this one pushed me over the edge. Extremely over ripe nose. I asked my wife to smell and guess what it was and she said new world syrah. Extracted and dark. Something midly pleasing on the mid-palate. Heat on the finish. HOSTILE towards for food. This could be much better in a few years but I strongly doubt it will ever taste like Gamay.

It's Granit for the record. This note surprises me as i found this to be one of the most balanced at the moment of the 09's. The one that i found that was really pushing it was the Coquelet VV Chiroubles; huge! I love it but its a massive gamay. Strange...

I was also surprised but the other notes I read confirmed my impression.

Additional Tasting Notes.

Some of these differences of perception might be attributable to different serving temperatures. Always a consideration, but I think riper Bojos are especially sensitive to that.

I had this from magnum at Mas in the West Village about a month ago, and it was stunning. Not overblown at all. Had beautiful grip and tightness. I don't recall it being served particularly cold. I'll have to check up on it again.
