A little bird (was that a saxophone he was playing?) told me that the big annual LDM tasting with Chambers St. Wines will be next month, March 19th. Crazy, 30 winemakers. Comrades who wish to attend are advised to act quickly to reserve a spot by contacting the store, office@chambersstwines.com or 212-227-1434.

Does anyone know if LDM tastings are ever held in Chicago? I can't travel to these events because it would require abandoning a small baby and dealing with the social disapprobation that would follow.

Oh, just chain it to the radiator and leave a water bowl.

But more seriously, the new LDM national salesperson is based in Chicago, so there might be more going on there down the road.

John,

WDC will hold a tasting with the winemakers in town. End of March I believe.

I'll be attending the one in NC.

That is correct. I think there will be a couple things going on. I've been told a date, but I don't know what is or is not open to everybody (ie not wine biz peeps). I also believe that Wine Discount Center will be having a fundraiser tie-in tasting around the same time. More to come I'm sure.

Wine Discount Center, Lars? Man, I haven't been there in well over a decade, but I remember it as being mostly about California wines at competitive prices, not about LDM imports. Have times changed that drastically? If there is a public component to the tasting, I might just have to come up for it.

There must be an LDM fan working there now because I've been buying boatloads of Brun, Tue-Boeuf, Briords, Lapierre, Roally, etc.
There is. Erika helps do some of the buying and she is a fan. Also, the manager Mike is pretty sympathetic to the cause.

Man, depending on what's going on in Chicago and when, I may have to seriously consider coming in from the west.
Kevin, if you make it in, send out the signal and we'll try to coordinate something. Maybe even try to find somewhere that has the new Goose Island sours on tap.

I'll definitely let people know if I'm coming into town.

Much of this will depend on scheduling. If it's midweek, my chances are low, if it ends up on a weekend, they may upgrade to fair, though they may downgrade to nonexistant once I get the bill for getting my car fixed...

Cheers,

Kevin

OK, so I stopped by the Elston Ave location today and -- sure enough -- the place is now chockablock with goodies. I was perhaps more impressed with what they had from Italy than France (though they did have the '09 Pepiere Cuvée Granite!). Still very good prices and a seedy ambiance that I find irresistible. I think that I probably spoke with Erika (dark hair? 30something?) because she gave me the lowdown on the LDM tasting: will be open to the public, Mar. 24th, details to follow this week by email.

Thanks for the tip, guys!
