On a serious note...my folks are there on vacation and communications are cut. I was told they are being moved to a place called Omyrama (or however it's spelled)...no contact yet and concerned. Tks for any info from anyone in the know. JS

I have a friend who lives there and whose house was not really affected by the quake. The effects of the quake depended on where you were, but there were regular aftershocks. He described this one as much worse than 6 months ago. Cells towers are down all over the place. I can try to reach out to my friend if you need a local connection.

Cole, thank you. My folks are apparently ok....thats all we know now. We'll know more in the morning. Hopefully, we'll get to talk with them. Sorry for anyone with worse losses. Was a rough day not knowing much at all.

Thanks, Cole. I spoke with my folks last night. They and their group are without luggage, as the hotel was cordoned off, awaiting inspections, but still moving along (now in Queenstown). They were downtown about an hour before the quake hit and all members of the group had elected to take a tour to a wildlife preserve just outside of town thereafter. They felt the quake pretty intensely in the bus tho and when they got back into town, the gallery where they'd just been was wrecked.

Good to hear that your friends were ok. Many, obviously, were less lucky.
